Letter builds on Senator Gallego’s efforts to address the spread of avian flu
WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) is urging President Donald Trump to uphold his campaign promise to bring down costs and address the spread of avian flu, which has led to a spike in egg prices across the country.
“The impact of avian flu on the price of eggs is clear: as more chickens are affected by the avian flu, the supply of eggs plummets and the price goes up,” Senator Gallego wrote.
“Eggs are a staple food upon which families rely, and the budgetary impact of any price increase is immediate, particularly for low-income families,” he continues. “In your campaign, you often mentioned plans to bring down prices on staple items such as food, and eggs must be a central part of those actions moving forward.”
Senator Gallego has called for swift executive action to address the spread of avian flu as far back as January of 2023 and as recently as last November, when he warned that rising egg prices could impact Arizonans’ holiday meals.
