Senator Gallego, Ambassador García-Peña Jaramillo, and Senator Moreno
WASHINGTON – Last night, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), one of two ever U.S. Senators of Colombian descent, spoke at the residence of the Colombian Ambassador in the United States for a reception in his honor celebrating the Senator’s heritage and ongoing commitment to strengthening U.S.-Colombia ties. The event also honored fellow Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH), who was born in Colombia.
The event, hosted by Ambassador Daniel García-Peña Jaramillo, brought together lawmakers, diplomats, and key stakeholders from across the U.S. and Colombia.
“It’s honor to be here, joined by my colleague, Bernie Moreno. You know we are the first Colombian Americans elected to the US Senate, a reflection of the hard work and the enduring spirit of Colombianos here in the United States,” said Senator Gallego. “It’s also a reminder of the great relationship that we have between Colombia and the United States, one that has endured some very difficult times, one that has had shared and prosperity and security, and one that needs to continue to be working going forward into the future in a bilateral manner, with mutual respect for both countries and cultures. I look forward to continuing that relationship and forging that relationship in an even stronger manner.”
